Introduction:
There isn't a sound-thinking Christian alive who can read the gospel records and not marvel at what our Lord Jesus Christ was able to do during his earthly ministry. It's no surprise that after a large number of people witnessed the miraculous healing that Christ brought to a paralytic , that Matthew 9:8 states, "Now when the multitude saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such POWER to men."
If "such POWER" were reserved solely for Jesus Christ, then why does the first verse of the next chapter say: "And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them POWER against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease"?
Furthermore, if "such POWER" were reserved for just Jesus Christ, plus the twelve, then why does Luke 10 speak of "seventy others also", who were empowered to "heal the sick", having been given "POWER…over all the power of the enemy"? When given that POWER, those seventy utilized it, to the end that when they returned to the Lord, he commented on what he observed: "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven".
So here is an honest question for any seeking soul - and it requires a thoughtful and biblical answer: If "such POWER" were reserved for just Jesus, plus the twelve, plus the seventy, then why does our Lord and Savior make this bold and astonishing statement in John 14:12: "Truly, truly, I say to you, WHOEVER believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father."?
This teaching series on "The POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT" is for those who desire to be among the believers spoken of in John 14:12, who truly trust in God's ability and willingness to fulfill the "promise of the Father" and "give such POWER unto men".
